Overbrook, PA is located in the northwest area of West Philadelphia. When it was constructed, Overbrook was an up and coming area, rather exclusive in its demographic. It was built up as a way of relieving housing pressure on other areas of Philadelphia that have more cramped housing quarters. The community of Overbrook is built largely of row houses and semi-detached homes that are significant in size. Most homes are two or three-stories and are more than 2,000 square feet in size. They are beautifully architectural in some cases with great attention to detail on the inside as well. It accompanies the time period of their construction — 1900 through the 1960s. Almost no single-family detached homes are in the neighborhood.
The area is still occupied by a well-to-do middle class with a median household income of over $120,000. These residents are a diverse mix of business people, singles, and working families. Because Overbrook is almost exclusively residential, most of the workforce commutes to other areas of the city. Students have plenty of education options close by from several universities like U of Penn to the same high school Will Smith attended, Overbrook High School.
